Math
First Grade uses the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt series called Math Expressions. Math Expressions provides many pathways to mathematical tasks. The program starts at the students' level and continually elicits their thinking, provides visual and linguistic supports to move them rapidly to understanding, and ends with extended fluency practice and application. Emphasis is placed on understanding and explaining. Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI) is also used in a small group setting. This approach focuses on problem solving. Kathy Richardson math materials will also be used to assess and analyze each student's understanding of math concepts. This material will also help with math intervention should the student show a deficiency in math skills.
